Jesper Larsen received his MSc in Computer Science in 1995 from the University of Copenhagen and his PhD in Operations Research in 1999 from The Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He has been assistant and associate professor at DTU since 2000 and the now holds professor chair in Operations Research at the Department of Technology, Management and Economics (DTU Management). Besides his role as professor, he is also head of the Management Science division as well as department head of education.

Jesper teaching Operations Research on the BSc and MSc level. He is also a popular supervisor and he has supervised more than 120 bachelor projects and master theses mostly in collaboration with industry.
From 2009 to 2016 he was Head of Studies for the MSc programme on Industrial Engineering and Management at DTU. He was one of the founding fathers for the BSc program in data science at DTU as well as the Business Analytics program  on MSc level.

Professor Larsen's research interest span optimization problems in transport optimization and resource planning in healthcare. He is the author of more than 50 papers and reports and is used as a reviewer for all top-journals in Operations Research. He has supervised more than 10 PhD students. He has been part of numerous program committees for key conferences as well as reviewer for many research agencies world-wide.  Professor Larsen is currently member of the Executive Committee of the European Association of OR Societies (EURO) as well as associate editor of OR Spectrum and TOP.

He has participated in numerous optimization projects with industry partners within transport (Danish State Railways, BaneDanmark and Deutsche Bahn and Qampo) as well as healthcare (Qampo, Novo Nordisk and Rigshospitalet).

Jesper is the 2017 recipient of the Hedorf Foundation Prize for excellence in transportation research.
